Reuben Burnette, age 17, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Friday, August 1, 2008 from injuries sustained in a pedestrian/train accident near Mahnomen, MN.
Reuben Edward was born in Detroit Lakes, MN, on August 29, 1990 to Edward and Mary (Gonzalez) Burnette. As a young child, he grew up and attended school in Naytahwaush, followed by Mahnomen High School.
He enjoyed playing games, listening to music and watching movies. Reuben was an easy going guy with a good sense of humor. He liked hanging out with his friends and spending time with family. One of Reuben's favorite things to do was cook and he was a good cook. At any given chance, Reuben would cook for his family and friends. He will be remembered for his bright eyes and nice smile and missed dearly by everyone who knew him.
Reuben is survived by his parents, Edward "Butch" and Mary Burnette, of Naytahwaush; two brothers, Edward, Jr. (April) Gonzalez, of Fargo, ND, and Alan Burnette, of Mahnomen; two sisters, Loretta (Dave, Jr.) Hoagland, of Naytahwaush, and Angela Gonzalez (David Jack), of Mahnomen, half sister, LeAnne Anderson, of Naytahwaush; maternal grandmother, Judy Gonzalez, of Waubun, and paternal grandparents, Edward and Ada Burnette, also of Naytahwaush; very special friend, Darcy Jahnke, of Rochert, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Burnette; grandfather, James Weaver; aunt, Frankie Gonzalez and uncle, Clifford "Udge" Burnette.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 6th at 11 am at the Loretta and Dave Hoagland Residence in rural Naytahwaush. Visitation will begin Tuesday, August 5th at 7 pm and go until the time of the funeral, all at the Hoagland Residence. Burial will be in the Snyder Lake Family Cemetery.
