Renee Hovden, age 83, of Ada, MN, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at her home.
Renee H. Ruch was born December 25, 1930, in Page, ND, the daughter of Harold and Bertha (Connor) Ruch. At the age of seven, Renee moved with her family to the Ada community. She attended school there graduating from Ada High School with the class of 1948. Renee was employed for several years at the Ada National Bank as a teller. In 1950, Renee was united in marriage to Loren Krogstad. The couple made their home southwest of Ada where they raised their four children. After Loren's death in January of 1963, Renee moved into Ada and began working at the bank again.
On November 25, 1966, Renee was united in marriage to Earl Hovden in Ada. Renee and Earl owned and operated a dairy farm east of Ada until moving into Ada in 1985. Renee kept busy over the years catering, cooking and baking in area cafés until retiring in 2008. Renee will always be remembered for her fondness of chickens, cooking talents, and always having special treats on hand when you would stop in for a visit and a cup of tea.
Renee was an active member of Faith United Church over the years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She truly treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Renee is survived by two sons, Chuck (Cathy) Krogstad of Fargo, ND and Jim (Kim) Krogstad of Ada; two daughters, Gayle (Kevin) Solum of Barnesville, MN and Debra (Rod) Syverson of Ada, MN; nine grandchildren, Rick Syverson, Kim Myers, Bryan Syverson, Jim Solum, K.C. Solum, Kelsey Nicklay, Heather Krogstad, Kristen Poehler, and Lauren Krogstad; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Myrna (Glenn) Larson of Ada and a brother, Monte (Judy) Ruch and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held on Monday, December 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Church, Ada. A time of gathering was Monday from 10:00 to 11:00. Officiating was Pastor Karen Finnegan with Solveig Kitchell serving as organist.
Inurnment was in the Ada Cemetery.
