Obituary

Raymond "Ray" W. Stoltenow, 90, Ada, MN, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Benedictine Care Community, Ada.

Raymond Stoltenow was born May 1, 1926, at the farm home near Great Bend, North Dakota. He was the 10th child of Herman and Anna (nee Muehler) Stoltenow. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1944; he then volunteered for induction and served in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1944-1946. In 1952, he graduated from the School of Pharmacy at North Dakota State University. Ray married Carole Bradley on August 9, 1958, and they lived in Wahpeton until 1961. They bought and operated Ada Rexall Drug in Ada, Minnesota, for 30 years. After retirement in 1991, Ray worked part-time in various pharmacies in the region until 2011.

Ray and Carole were blessed with two children, Reverend Bradley Stoltenow (Jodie) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Mary (Rick) Scholz of Woodbury, MN; five grandchildren: Anna (Chad), Kylie, Joe (Viya), Sam, and Baylee; and three great-grandchildren: Willa, Asher, and Aksel.

Ray was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on several committees, including the church council and board of elders. Ray was active with the Ada Chamber of Commerce, Ada Area Development, Norman County Housing Authority, the Norman County Cancer Society (28 years), and many other county and city organizations.

Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, and time spent at White Earth Lake, MN, with his family at their summer home.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents: Anna and Herman Stoltenow; two brothers: Clarence and Leonard; and seven sisters: Justine, Lorina, Adela, Helen, Emma, Anna, and Ruby.

Funeral: 1:00PM Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Wednesday from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with a 6:30PM prayer service at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
