Raymond Stende, age 94, of Ulen, MN, died Thursday, May 26, 2016, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.

Raymond Joseph Wesley Stende was born September 14, 1921, the son of Alfred and Bessie Violet (Franklin) Stende. Ray's father passed away when Ray was only 13 years old, and he took on the responsibility of being the head of the family. In 1937, Ray helped build a new barn at the cost of $300. They started out milking about 25 cows and as the years went on, Ray milked up to 70 head in his later days. Farm work entailed long hours, but Ray truly loved the farm life. After selling the cows, Ray spent a few years working at the Shooting Star Casino. He had many responsibilities there including waiting tables, making pizzas and looking after the buffet line. Ray continued to live on the family farm until moving into the Viking Manor in December of 2014, where he had made his home since.

Over the years, Ray was an active member of Aspelund Lutheran Church. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, and caring for his cats on the farm.

Ray is survived by two brothers, Arnold Stende of Coon Rapids, MN and Alfred Stende of St. Paul, MN; two nieces, Catherine and Wanda; and a nephew, Jerry.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a Time of Gathering from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016, in the Anderson Family Funeral Home, Twin Valley with burial to follow in Aspelund Lutheran Cemetery, Flom.
