Raymond Renfrew, age 95, of Borup, MN, died Monday, July 25, 2016, in his home.
Raymond Norby Renfrew was born March 29, 1921, the son of John and Clara (Norby) Renfrew in Hendrum Township, MN. As a youngster, Raymond attended rural school in that area as well as working on the family farm. He also worked for other farmers in the Hendrum community until his fathers' death in 1943. At that time, he and his brother, Clare, continued to farm until April of 1952, when they moved near Borup, in Felton Township, section 2. On July 8, 1961, Raymond was united in marriage to Helen Jaques in Grand Rapids, MN. The couple made their home on the farm near Borup and was blessed with three sons: Paul, Jim and David. Raymond retired in 1979 and rented out the land, but continued to do what he enjoyed by helping out his neighbors for several years.
Raymond was active in the churches he attended, mainly working with wood projects and repairs that needed to be done. He was also a member of the Borup School Board for a number of years. Raymond was a very talented woodworker which was evident in the many clocks he made over the years. He made several grandfather clocks and smaller clocks as well as a number of bookshelves. His passion for growing plants is evidenced by the wooden flower boxes Raymond built for his son, Jim's home. Raymond also collected and played musical instruments, most of which are known as a violin-uke, which is a form of a zither. In his retirement years, Raymond enjoyed a good game of horseshoes. He won various local two member team horseshoe tournaments as well as playing in a local horseshoe league. Raymond shared this love of horseshoes with his son, Paul.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Helen Renfrew of Borup, MN; sons: Paul (Kimberly) Renfrew of Amarillo, TX, Jim Renfrew of Fargo, ND, and David "Parker" Renfrew of West Fargo, ND; five grandchildren; Ryan, Timothy, Holly, EmmaClaire, and Charlie; a sister, Doris Kuvaas of Moorhead, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ernest and Clare; and sister, Lillian Nelson.
