Obituary

Randy Scott, age 65, of Naytahwaush, MN, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at his home surrounded by family after a two-year battle of pancreatic cancer.

Born on June 1, 1958, in White Earth, MN, to Elmer and Glendora (Bellanger) Scott. Randy attended school in Naytahwaush and proudly graduated from Mahnomen High School. He furthered his education at the Detroit Lakes Vocational Technical College, where he earned a degree in electrical technology. He worked odd jobs that included electrical and leeching. He dedicated over 8 years of his life to the American Crystal Sugar Company before transitioning to a role as a security guard at the Shooting Star Casino when it opened. During this time, he met and married Carol Wright, later divorcing as they went their separate ways. Randy worked at Bagley Lumber for a period of time before working for the White Earth Nation in building maintenance, finally retiring in May of 2023 after 10+ years of service. Randy shared the last 6 years of his life with Teresa Harper.

Throughout his life, Randy exhibited a deep commitment to community service. Known for going above and beyond, he willingly extended a helping hand to neighbors, friends, and fellow community members. Randy's pride was evident in his efforts to beautify Naytahwaush—whether cleaning up litter, mowing grass in the Village, or engaging in various community projects. In his leisure time, Randy enjoyed cruising around with his loyal furry companion, Blaze, reconnecting with friends, and testing his luck at the casino and slot machines. His warm presence and dedication made him an invaluable member of our community, and his absence will be felt by all who knew him.

Randy is survived by two step-daughters, Tia (Tony) Wadena and Sophia Wright; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters: Lorna Nelson of Rogers, MN, Jean Clark, Sandy Scott and Betty Scott, all of Naytahwaush; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brandon McArthur Sr.; step-daughter, Misty Wright; two grandchildren, Brandon McArthur Jr. and Kylee McArthur; sister, Yvonne Kaste; and nephew Patrick Scott Sr.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., with a visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. until the start of service, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex.
