Celebrating the life of Ramona Habedank

Ramona Elzetta (Schurdevin) Habedank passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 30, 2023, at the age of 91. Ramona was born October 7, 1931, to Louise (Burkhardt) Schurdevin and Leo Schurdevin in Crookston, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Green Meadow Church.

Ramona was born during the depression and her family moved around the county quite a bit. At one point her family lived in a boxcar on their farm until they could afford a house. Growing up she loved to play with her younger brother Roy. She enjoyed the outdoors and had an adventurous nature. Her mother would often catch her jumping from the hay mounds to the ground below or climbing to the top of a tree and swinging back and forth!

Ramona went to a small country school through sixth grade, she then attended school in Gary, MN from seventh through tenth grade. During her junior year she went to Twin Valley school. It was there she began dating the love of her life.

On June 10, 1949, at the Ada Parsonage Ramona married Stanley Habedank and began a lifetime of adventures. They began their life together in Ada, MN before making their home on a farmstead right outside of Twin Valley. It was there Stanley built their dream home. They were blessed with six children, Marilyn (who sadly passed away a few short days after birth), Peggy, Connie, Dixie, Steve and Vernon.

Ramona's greatest joy was being a wife and mother. This along with keeping books for SA Habedank Construction, being a farm wife, taking care of the farm animals and five small children kept her very busy. Yet she still found time to volunteer her talents. Ramona was active in Ladies Aide, volunteering at their Church and teaching Sunday School, being a den mother for both of her sons' troops, an active and founding member of the Twin Valley Lioness Club, in which she became the club's first president and in later years turning her favorite hobby into a business. In the early 90's Ramona and her daughter Connie opened RC Country Ceramics teaching a love of painting and various ceramic techniques to many people around the area.

Ramona also enjoyed traveling. During their marriage they visited many different states and traveled to Canada, Mexico and Japan. She had a love for camping and RV life also. During their retirement years they spent winters in Texas and Arkansas always making new friends along the way.

Above all else Ramona loved her family and was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. No matter what she was doing she always had time to listen to what a little one wanted to say or show her.

Ramona and Stanley were married for seventy-one years before Stanley passed in 2020. Now they are together again sharing a dance in Heaven. She will be greatly missed but always in our hearts.

Ramona is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Loise Schurdevin; parents-in-law, Frank and Gertrude Habedank; beloved husband, Stanley; infant daughter, Marilyn; daughter, Peggy; daughter, Dixie; brother, Roy Schurdevin; sister-in-law, Donna Schurdevin; and nephew, Lee Roy Schurdevin.

Ramona is survived by her daughter, Connie (Jerald "Butch" Wrage); sons, Steve and Vernon; sons-in-law, Mike Holte and Cliff Fjeld; grandchildren, Michelle (Rodney) Fischer, Jon (Jan) Holte, Mona (Jeff) Gronner, Joni (Jeremy) Gieseke and Jami (Shaun) Bredman; 17 great grandchildren; and 8 (and growing) great-great grandchildren.
