R. Samuel (Sam) Johnson, 75, born September 21, 1950, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in Ada, MN at the Benedictine Care Community.

Sam was born in Ada, MN to Alvin and Marjorie Johnson. He graduated from Ada High School where he was known for golf and track and field, he still holds a school record in high jump (6'3"), then continued his track career at Moorhead State College and eventually moved back to Ada.

He was an avid golfer and dog lover. Sam's dogs Bernie and Annie went everywhere with him, golfing, to lunch, and even to the bar. Even though his dogs were never far from him, he took time to interact with any dog he came across. He loved his Volkswagens and could be seen cruising Ada in his red VW Beetle.

Sam was preceded in death by his father, Alvin, mother, Marjorie, brother, David, and sister, Deborah. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Tom Kolness; sister-in-law, Deb Johnson; nephews, Chris Kolness, Kelly Kolness, and Dylan (Abby) Johnson; and nieces Cassandra (Wyatt) Bilby, Marjorie Johnson, and Emily Johnson; and 2 great-nieces and a great-nephew.

The family would like to thank Clay and Luanne Visser and the exceptional staff at Benedictine Care Community for their attention and care to Sam over the last 3 years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
