Phyllis E. Torgerson, age 66, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.
Phyllis Elaine was born on December 23, 1949, in White Earth, MN, the youngest child of John and Evelyn (Carl) Smith. She was raised and attended school in the Detroit Lakes area. She was united in marriage to George Havercamp, but the couple later divorced. Phyllis worked and lived in the Detroit Lakes area for the majority of her life. She later met the love of her life, Thomas Torgerson, and they married and spent 32 wonderful years together. The happy couple made their home in Detroit Lakes. Tom passed away in 2012 and Phyllis remained in their home.
Phyllis always enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She would take time out for everyone and was always willing to help anyway she could. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, volleyball, anything to do with picnics and family gatherings. Phyllis had strong Christian beliefs and became very close to God. Prayer and meditation were part of her daily routine and she welcomed communion any time she could. Phyllis was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Cory (Peggy) Havercamp of GA and Patti Ann Smith of Detroit Lakes; her brother; Leonard (Mary) Smith of White Earth; her sisters: Connie (Tom) Bevins of Mahnomen and Edith (Jack) Chamberlain of MI; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and large extended family.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Tom; son, Loren; parents, John and Evelyn; sisters: Patsy, Janice, Evelyn and infant sister, Josephine and brothers: Carl and Dennis.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, September 16, 2016, at 1:30 pm at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN. Visitation was held Thursday, September 15 th from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Interment took place at Calvary Cemetery in White Earth, MN.
