Obituary

Phyllis A. Gordon, 89, Ada, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

Phyllis was born on March 31, 1925, to Arnold and Ruth (Melbostad) Johnson, near Gardner, North Dakota. Her family moved to rural Borup, MN, where Phyllis grew up and graduated from Borup High School in 1943. Following her schooling, she worked with her parents at the restaurant called the Johnson's Cafe in Perley, MN.

On March 31, 1945, Phyllis was united in marriage to James A. Gordon, at the Kirkebo Lutheran Church parsonage in Perley. They lived and farmed together in rural Borup until 1986, when they retired. Phyllis remained very active throughout her life. She worked at the grocery store in Borup and Hartz Grocery in Ada, ChiChi's Café in Ada as a baker, and for Multi County Nursing as a Home Health Aide. Phyllis was an active member of Winchester Lutheran Church and its women's groups. She sang with the Inspirations (a local music group), served with Helping Hands Club, and was member of Marilee Homemakers Club and Borup Community Club.

Phyllis was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dearly loved her family and truly enjoyed being with them, attending their events and being personally involved in their lives. Horse shows, church, ball games, and community events kept Phyllis active and involved with others. Planting, nurturing and harvesting vegetables from her garden, as well as flowers, brought Phyllis a lot of satisfaction as a farm wife. Her faith as a Christian was her guide and strength throughout her life.

Phyllis is survived by a son, Steven (friend-Lynn Munnell), Borup, daughter, Patti (Craig) Steen, Halstad, MN, daughter-in-law, Pam Gordon, Borup, eight grandchildren, Jen (Rob) Myers, Kim (Lance) Johnson, Melissa Gordon, Shaunna (Chris) Johnson, Marc (Shelley) Gordon, Lindsey (Casey) Abentroth, Allyson Steen, and Cayley Steen, and 17 great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Loren, one grandson, Andrew, and a brother, Hubert "Mac", sister-in- law, Lucy.
