Phyllis Forsythe, age 87, of Ulen, MN, died Tuesday, December 19, 2006, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.
Phyllis K. Asleson was born October 2, 1919, the daughter of Henry and Helma (Reiersgord) near Ulen where she was raised. Phyllis attended school in Ulen and also graduated from Ulen High School. On March 11, 1943, Phyllis was united in marriage to Basil Forsythe at her parents' home in Ulen. The couple made their home in Ulen where they raised their family. Phyllis was employed at area grocery stores and also worked as a lineo type operator for the Ulen Union newspaper. Phyllis was later employed by the Detroit Lakes Post Office until she accepted the position of Postmaster in Ulen where she worked for many years until her retirement. Basil died June 3, 1998. Phyllis continued to live at home until recently moving into the Viking Manor Nursing Home.
Phyllis was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, visiting with her friends and doing puzzles. She also truly treasured the time she spent with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by a son, Bryce (Suzanne) of Dent, MN; three granddaughters, Sara (Mark) Carney of Seattle, WA, Amy Forsythe of Moorhead, MN and Erin Forsythe in the US Navy; a brother Vern Asleson of Mpls., MN; a sister Verona (Joris "JD") Sundseth of Yakima, WA; and two great grandchildren, Samantha and Zachary.
Her parents, husband, six brothers and one sister precede her in death.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 22 at 11:00 AM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Officiating will be Pastor John Martinson with Carol Lockhart serving as organist and Sara Carney and Steve Lunde serving as vocalists. Pallbearers will be Rev. Mark Asleson, Dr. Bruce Asleson, Mike Asleson, Gayle Hanson, Ron Lomsdal and Brad Hahn. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 21 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Visitation will also be one hour before services at the church on Friday.
Interment will be in the North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
