Phylis Peterson, age 91, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Phylis Frances Edna Falstad was born October 17, 1919 the daughter of John and Marie (Hamstad) Falstad in Hastings, North Dakota. Phylis was raised in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1937. Phylis was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On July 17, 1938, Phylis was united in marriage to Lyle Peterson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. To this union, three children were born: Dennis, Judith and Teddy. The couple moved to Twin Valley in 1943, where they raised their family. As an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Phylis was enthusiastically involved with the Ladies Aid, Circle, Bible Study and taught as a Sunday and Wednesday School Teacher for many years. She also worked at the Lutheran Memorial Home for a few years before retiring in 1979. Lyle passed away on May 4, 1990, and Phylis continued to make her home in Twin Valley until she entered the Twin Valley Living Center in 2001.
Over the years, Phylis took pleasure in Bible Study, coffee parties, quilting and crocheting. She made and sold many shelf dolls. Phylis also held memberships with the Sons of Norway, Modern Study Club and several other local and charitable organizations. Although many miles apart, Phylis thoroughly loved her family. She liked spending time with each of her children and their families, always enjoying the fun things they did together. She would often leave them with, "Remember, God loves you and so do I."
Surviving Phylis are her children: Dennis (Kathy) Peterson, Outing, Minnesota, Judy (Gary) Baird, Murphysboro, Illinois and Ted (Sue) Peterson, Alexandria, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Anne Peterson, Laura (Chris) Hanson, Peter (Michele) Baird, Joe (Noriko) Baird, Jennifer (Nick) Wolff, Jason (Sarah) Peterson and Matthew Peterson; seven great-grandchildren: Jacob and Noah Baird, Zachary, Benjamin and Sarah Hanson, and Graham and Sam Peterson; and also several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Lyle, she was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Theodore Norby; sister, Gladys Peterson and brother, Bernt Norby.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Officiating was Pastor Steve Dahl with Danette Gwin serving as organist and Monica Winter serving as vocalist. Pallbearers were Phylis' grandsons and great-grandsons.
Burial was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley, Minnesota
