Peter Michael Johnson, known affectionately by friends and family as "Mike," passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, Minnesota. Mike was born on July 16, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Harland and Jean (Gilbertson) Johnson. He grew up in the Twin Cities area and graduated from Edina High School with the class of 1962.

Mike's professional life was defined by the steady rhythm of the rails. He worked for Southwest Forest and the Apache Railroad, serving as a conductor for many years. Though his career was cut short by a work accident that cost him his left hand, Mike met his recovery with remarkable resilience. Once he healed, he chose to return to his Minnesota roots. He settled in Halstad, where he lived in the Heritage House apartments and found great fulfillment assisting on the Gilbertson family farm.

In 2016, Mike moved into the Halstad Living Center, a place he would call home for the remainder of his years. Mike was a man of immense kindness and generosity, known for his empathetic heart and his willingness to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by the many friends and community members who were touched by his loving spirit and quiet strength.

Mike will be missed deeply by his sister, Susan (Robert) Stewart, Mesa, AZ; brother, Stuart Johnson, Lakeside, AZ; along with three nieces and three nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harland and Jean Johnson, and sister-in-law, Tonia Johnson.
