Obituary

Pedro A. Ruiz, Sr., 84, Ada, MN, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Benedictine Care Community in Ada, surrounded by family members.

Pedro was born on August 1, 1940. Growing up in a bigger family, Pedro was very religious and made sure to practice his Catholic beliefs. Pedro met Francisca Galvan in Asherton, TX, where they went on a date, and became inseparable from that point on, marrying on February 3, 1964.

Pedro was a wonderful man. Always putting his family first, working hard throughout his life to provide for what was needed. Whether that meant working in the same state or having to travel to find work, Pedro did not mind, he took the jobs and did them with pride for his family.

When Pedro wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. One of Pedro's hobbies was being outside working on cars, while listening to his oldies. He also enjoyed taking his children to the parks so they could enjoy themselves and he made sure to enjoy himself as well by throwing a blanket on the ground under a nicely shaded tree to rest and enjoy nature. Pedro was known for being a loving and caring person, for joking with people and making them laugh. As his eight children grew older, and traveling from Texas to Minnesota for farm work, the love for fishing started to grow. If Pedro wasn't working, he was either down by the Red River fishing for catfish, or at bingo with his wife. At home, Pedro was involved in Francisca's home cooking and house chores, because he knew that after they got done, Francisca's exact words were "Pedro, I feel like going to bingo or the casino, should we go?" to which Pedro's reply was always, "Are you ready?" The children knew when Pedro and Francisca would win, because they would bring back their winnings. Another favorite activity of Pedro's was dancing, he loved to dance! While living in Texas he and Francisca would regularly get dressed up and go out to Mexican dances and dance the night away.

As his eight children started to have their own children, Pedro took every chance he could to spend time with them, make them laugh, get to know them, and create lifetime memories for them. Even after losing his wife 12 years ago, Pedro thought and spoke about Francisca and all the wonderful moments they created together. If you knew Pedro, you know he was a great man. He will be missed tremendously by many, many people and will forever live on in the hearts of everyone that knew him.

Pedro is survived by his eight children, Pedro Ruiz, Jr., Derby, TX, Cynthia Ruiz, Gary, MN, Alberto Ruiz, Laredo, TX, Lisa Primeau, West Fargo, ND, Sam Ruiz, Moorhead, MN, Gustavo Ruiz, Fargo, ND, Paulita Ruiz, Fargo, ND, and Claudia Ruiz, Fargo, ND; sisters, Lupe, Rosa, and Maria, all of Texas; brothers, Hector Ruiz, Chicago, IL, Mario Ruiz, San Antonio, TX, and Jose Ruiz, Crystal City, TX, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
