Pearl Asleson, age 88, of Ulen, MN, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Pearl Ardis was born on May 29, 1929 to George "Art" and Florence (Sipe) Nygaard in Shelly, MN. Pearl grew up in the Shelly -Lockhart area with her parents and three sisters. She later moved to Ulen, where she graduated Salutatorian of the class of 1947. Shortly after high school, Pearl was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Asleson on October 18, 1947 at her parents' home in Ulen. The couple made their home in Ulen, and were blessed with four daughters and one son. She enjoyed raising her family and being close to them. Pearl was employed as a cook at the Viking Manor for many years and at the local café. After Pearl suffered a stroke in 2001, she received care from her family that allowed her to live at home until time of passing.
Throughout her life, Pearl could be found knitting, embroidering, and crocheting projects of all types. She was a dedicated Minnesota Twins fan, cheering the team on even in their losing seasons. Pearl was also an avid crossword puzzle solver, and enjoyed trips to the casino. She will be long remembered for her home cooked meals, canned vegetables, laugh, hugs, and car rides. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5115 Auxiliary, and also a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #412 and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Most of all, Pearl loved spending time with her family and creating memories with them. She was frequently referred to as the rock of her family, teaching them to fight, plug on, and never give up. Her love and nurture will be missed by all.
Pearl is survived by her four daughters, Bonnie (Clair) Brenna of Minneapolis, MN, Barbara (Wayne) Bakke, Beverly (Gayle) Hansen, and Beth Burnside all of Ulen; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Geneva (Dick) Dullum of Richfield, MN, Edith (Roger) Harvey of Oro Valley, AZ, and June (Harold) Hayworth of Marana, AZ.
