Paul
Rousu
Apr 6, 1948 — Jul 27, 2025
Callaway
Paul Rousu, age 77, of Callaway, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hearts in Action Hospice.
Paul Edward Lee Rousu was born on April 6, 1948, the 15th child of Ale and Emma (Pellinen) Rousu of Callaway. He proudly served his country after being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Korea. Paul served from December 10, 1968, to July 14, 1970, and attained the rank of SP4.
In 1970, upon returning home, Paul married the love of his life, Margaret (Margie) Tepley. Their 55 year marriage was a lifelong partnership filled with love and mutual devotion. In his final days, Paul's greatest concern was that Margie would be well cared for.
Paul had a deep passion for local history and served as a past President of the Becker County Historical Society. He remained dedicated to preserving the area's heritage, particularly its Fur Trade era, and created a historical display from artifacts he personally discovered throughout his life.
A true outdoorsman, Paul loved fishing. What began as a necessity to help feed his family grew into a lifelong passion. Known fondly as "The Fishhouse Man," Paul was even featured in a video about ice fishing. His favorite fishing companions were his beloved granddaughters, with whom he shared countless treasured moments on the water. Paul's legacy lives on in his family, his contributions to local history, and the many lives he touched.
Paul is survived by his wife, Margie; daughter, Michelle (Matt) Splonskowski of Callaway; granddaughters: Kelsey, Kasey, and Kodi; and bonus granddaughters: Madisen, McKenna, and McKinley. He is also survived by his sisters: Phyllis St. Claire of Callaway, Claire Hill of Aitkin, MN, Jeanie Johnson of Callaway, and Patsy Johnson of Meadowland, MN; one brother, Dave (Delores) Rousu of Callaway; sisters-in-law, Sue Rousu of Callaway and Jennie Rousu of Fargo, ND; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: George, Charlie, Danny, Tom, and Tim; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Mildred (Don) Luedtke, Blanche (Johnny) Niemi, Donna (Neil) Wayman; brothers-in-law: Victor Johnson, Jim Johnson, Eldred St. Claire, and Simon Hill; and an infant sister, Patsy.
Burial with Military Honors will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Per Paul's request, no local services will be held.
