Paul Rasmussen, age 90, of Fertile, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, in First Care
Nursing Home, Fosston, Minnesota.
Paul V. Rasmussen was born December 10, 1915, the son of Nels and Marie(Paulson)
Rasmussen in Austin, Minnesota. At the age of six, Paul moved with his family to a farm in the
Fertile community where he grew up and attended country school. As a young man, he worked
for various farmers in the area. On February 6, 1939, Paul was united in marriage to Ruby
Widrig in Sisseton, South Dakota. The couple made their home near Fertile where they lived and
operated a farm. In 1948, Paul purchased a dairy farm southeast of Fertile, living there until his
retirement at the age of 83. From 1956 to 1959, Paul was employed a the Fertile brick yard and
from 1966 to 1978 he was employed at the Elk River Concrete Plant in Crookston, Minnesota.
Ruby died on April 10, 1987. Paul continued to live on the farm until 2004. At that time he
moved into the Sunshine Court in Fertile, Minnesota. In February, 2006, Paul moved into the
First Care Nursing Home where he resided until the time of his death.
Paul found enjoyment reading Westerns, working on his farm and tending to his farm animals.
He was often seen driving his old pick up or white Chevy Caprice with his dog, Pupper sitting on
his lap while touring the countryside looking at the crops. Paul also enjoyed visiting with
company and going out to eat.
He is survived by three sons, Jim (Pat) of Fertile, MN, Vernon (Connie) of East Grand Forks,
MN, and Dean (Dione) of Fertile, MN; three daughters, Ann (Hayes) Tucker of Mentor, MN,
JoAnn (Alden) Narum of Moorhead, MN and Diane (Lyle) Fuchs of Fertile, MN; a
daughter-in-law, Carolyn of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Carl of Fertile, MN; 19 grandchildren,
23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Verle, one grandson, Mark, one brother,
Elmer , one sister, Evelyn and a half sister, Alice.
A Memorial Service were held on Friday, June 30, 2006, at 10:30 AM in Sundal Lutheran
Church, rural Fertile, Minnesota. Officiating was Pastor H. William Beyer with Andy Hanson serving as organist and Cecil Malme serving as vocalist accompanied by Judy Lee.
Inurnment was in Sundal Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, Minnesota.
