Obituary

Paul McQuown, age 82 of Mahnomen, MN, formerly of Gary, MN, died Friday, January 16, 2015, at Sanford Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, ND.

Paul William McQuown was born December 8, 1932, in Kenton, OH, to Lowell and Wilma (James) McQuown. He was raised in Ada, OH, and at age 14, left high school to farm. Paul later graduated from agricultural school majoring in farm management. In 1950, Paul married his first wife, Ethel Dotson and together they had five children. Throughout this time, he continued farming, as well as trucking, custom welding and various other jobs. Paul moved his family to Illinois where he owned laundromats, obtained his pilot license and also worked as a welder and shop manager with the Barber Green Company. Paul was a member of the A.F. of L./C.I.O. Union District 108 and Local 1202 for 18 years. During his union membership, Paul held the offices of Vice President and President for several years. Paul and his current wife, Doris Ann Talbot, were married on November 5, 1960. Paul and Doris had three children, and the family moved from Illinois to Gary, MN, in 1973. While living in the Gary area, he was involved with farming, real estate, and many other business ventures. In 1984, Paul found work in St. Louis Park, MN, as the Building Maintenance Manager of Bridgewalk Condominiums. After retiring in 2004, Paul was a resident of Gary, where he served on the city council for a few years.

Paul was a social person who liked visiting with everyone. He had a good sense of humor and always worked hard to provide for his family. He also enjoyed fishing and bowling.

Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Ann of Mahnomen, and his children: Linda (Dave) McCoy of Bowling Green, OH, Jeanne (Matt) Brusatori of Plainfield, IL, Karen Harding of Dixon, IL, David McQuown also of Bowling Green, Paula (Greg) Kula of Wood Dale, IL, Tim (Jenny) McQuown of Elk River, MN, Rob McQuown of Ada, MN, and Tammie McQuown of Fargo, ND; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, two nephews and three nieces. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Dorabelle, Betty, and Lowell.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015, at 7 p.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Visitation will be held from 5–7 p.m. prior to the funeral on Thursday.
