Obituary

Jerry Ingebrigtson, age 83, of Waubun, MN, died Sunday, November 1, 2009 at MeritCare Health Systems in Fargo, ND.

Paul "Jerry" Jerome Ingebrigtson was born April 17, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Arnold and Olive (Fagre) Ingebrigtson. He lived in the Minneapolis area until his mother's death in 1939. In 1940, Jerry moved with his father and sister to the Philippine Islands while his father was serving in the military. His brothers, Oran and John, were cared for by Jack and Hilma Bartos while the family was overseas. Upon the passing of Arnold, Jerry and siblings were welcomed into John and Hilma's home in Waubun. In 1944, Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving as rifleman. Due to an injury he obtained at the invasion of Okinawa, Japan, he was honorably discharged on October 19, 1945. Jerry then worked out West for several years until he began working for August Vagts construction in Breckenridge, MN. While there, he met Betty Vagts and the couple was married on May 15, 1954. Jerry and Betty made their home near Waubun, operating a farm and raising beef cattle. Jerry also hauled livestock for over 19 years and worked various other jobs over the years.

Jerry was a true outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as working in the woods and cutting timber. Jerry treasured spending time with his wife and children creating many special memories with each of them. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and was looking forward to welcoming a new great grandbaby next spring. Jerry was a member of Lake Grove Lutheran Church and was active with both the Mahnomen American Legion Issacson-Bjorge Post #31 and the Ogema VFW Post #9980.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty of Waubun; two sons, David (Mary) and Lyle (Rachel), both of Waubun; one daughter, Diane Leadens of Bemidji, MN; five grandchildren: Tracy, Paul, Amanda, Jana, and Kari; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oran and John, and one sister: Marlys.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 4, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 pm, at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Lake Grove Lutheran Church, rural Waubun, with additional seating and a live video feed at the Waubun Community Center. Reverend Doyle Turner officiated with Sue Heisler as organist. Vickie Heisler and Katie Fagre provided special music. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Roland Schmidt, Mike Ingebrigtson, Stan Fagre, Randy Bartos, Jeff Fagre, Steve Amberg, George Amberg, Miles Anderson, Jeff Vagts, David Stalboerger, and Dan Bellefeuille.

Inurnment was at Lake Grove Lutheran Cemetery, rural Waubun. Military honors were provided by the Mahnomen American Legion Issacson-Bjorge Post #31, Ogema VFW Post #9980 and the MNARNG Honor Guard. Justin Stalboerger played taps.
