Paul L. Burd, 83, Nielsville, MN, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.

Paul was born July 3, 1933, to Lynn and Ethel Burd at Crookston, Minnesota hospital. He was baptized and confirmed at St Petri Church in Nielsville. Paul attended rural school District #19 for several years and then went on to Nielsville School and finished high school in Climax.  During these years, he raised milk goats and worked for area farmers including picking potatoes at the Brekke Farm to earn enough to purchase a new bicycle.

Following high school in 1952, he along with Stanley Roningen and others enlisted in the United States Army.  He trained at Fort Benning, Georgia in the 51 ^st Airborne Division.  He was proud of his 29 jumps as paratrooper which were all in the United States.  Following military duty he lived in the Minneapolis area employed mostly by the Mosaic Tile Company in various positions.  During this time he met Marjorie Isaacson from Pelican Rapids and they were wed on January 25, 1958.  The couple lived in Fridley, MN.  Three sons blessed their lives, Timothy, Terry and Ricky.  In the spring of 1968, they moved to the Burd family farm in Nielsville to assist a brother, Harry in farming.  After Harry's death Paul and his sons continued to farm.  In 1992, Paul joined his son Terry in the maintenance department at Halstad Lutheran Home for 13 years.  After his retirement in 2005, he helped Terry and Kathi in their lawn mowing service.

Surviving Paul is his family: Loving wife Marjorie, sons Timothy (Michele), Lebanon, OR; Terry (Kathi), Ada, MN; Ricky, Nielsville, MN. Grandchildren: Luke (Heather), Levi (Erin), Lydia (Jon), Joseph (Jeremy), Amanda, Clint (Alysia). Great-grandchildren: Chloe, Bentley, Lynn, Carter, Brennan, Forest, Charles, Charlotte. Sister: Jean Ehrichs, Roseville, MI. Sister-in-law: Shirley Isaacson, Otsego, MN. Brothers-in-law: Richard Isaacson, Minneapolis, MN and George Beatty, Ashville, NC. And many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norman, Harry and Norman, sisters Evelyn, Mary Anne and Dorothy.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.

Burial: St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, rural Nielsville, MN.
