Patrick Leslie, age 51, of rural Waubun, Minnesota died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Patrick Owen Leslie was born September 1, 1958 in Ada, Minnesota, the son of Raymond and Agnes (Wolbeck) Leslie. His family moved to the Mahnomen, Minnesota, area where he attended school. As a young man, Pat worked several years in constructing bridges. He then pursued his true passion, becoming a fishing bait dealer. He leeched for over 20 years and even spent a short time netting minnows. In 1984, Pat met Gloria (Goble) Habedank and together they raised a family. In 1994, the Pat and Gloria were united in marriage and continued to make their home near Waubun. In 2004, Pat was diagnosed with cancer and has bravely battled since that time.


Pat had a wonderful sense of humor, and could usually be found cracking jokes, teasing friends, or picking on his mother-in-law. He always had a friendly, caring attitude and a positive outlook on life. Pat truly worried about the ones he loved and would give the world to make them happy. His grandchildren were special treasures and he loved spending time with each of them. Pat also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a cowboy at heart who loved to ride horse and team rope when he was able.


Pat is survived by his wife, Gloria of Waubun; four sons: Patrick (Jessica Holm) Leslie Jr. of Fosston, Minnesota, Tommy Habedank of Mahnomen, Ronald Habedank of Waubun, and Chad (Vanessa) Habedank of Park Rapids, Minnesota; one daughter, Alexis Leslie of Waubun; five brothers: David (Elaine) Leslie of Hibbing, Minnesota, Steve (Stella) Leslie, Richard Leslie, Raymond (Helen) Leslie, Robert Leslie, all of Mahnomen; two sisters, Linda (Ronald) Bjerk of Mahnomen and Janice Bailey of Erskine, Minnesota; his mother-in-law, Gloria Goble of Waubun; and six grandchildren: Meya, JoAnne, Charlotte, Jason, Sonja, and Hayden.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; one sister, Janet; and his grandson, Justin.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, with Fr, Mario Prada officiating. Pianist was Brenda Sorensen with Carol Buschette as song leader. Serving as pallbearers were Darrell "Boone" Wadena, Nick Goodwin, John Gilat, Steve Kresbach, Scott Olsen and Dale Vik. Honorary bearers were Dan Bjerk, Lester Darco, Steve Haider and Al Gilat, as well as all of Pat's friends and family. Visitation was held at St. Michaels Church on Friday, March 12, 2010 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm.


Interment will take place at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Mahnomen.
