Watch Pat's Funeral Service

Patricia "Pat" Schoenborn, age 88, of Duluth, MN, formerly Mahnomen, MN, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Elysian Sr. Homes, Duluth, MN.

Patricia Karen Duncan was born on March 13, 1937, in Dawson, MN to parents Marvin Duncan and Ann Faaberg Duncan. Pat attend school in Cass Lake, MN, and Fosston, MN, graduating from Fosston High School in 1955. After several years employed at Banks in Fosston, and Minneapolis, MN, Pat decided to follow a dream and enrolled at Bemidji State College. Three years later, in 1964, Pat graduated from Bemidji with a major in Teaching English, and a Minor in Library Science.  Pat soon found work, teaching for Waubun Public School, covering English and History. She later became the school Librarian; a position she maintained for the rest of her career. Pat loved teaching, working with children, and books.

Pat married Sylvester "Sal" Schoenborn in St. Micheal's Church in Mahnomen, on December 28, 1968. She worked, and Sal built a business, they spent time together, and with their extended families, built a home, and traveled when the opportunity arose. Pat tended to her garden, was active in her church, learned to paint watercolor and read abundantly.  Pat and Sal retired together on the same day, in 1994. They became 'Snowbirds', spending their summers in their home in Mahnomen, and wintering in various parts of Arizona. After Sal's death in August of 2022, Pat suffered a stroke in May of 2023. She spent the rest of her life in Assisted Living in Duluth, where she died on May 6, 2025.

In death she joins her beloved husband, Sal; parents, Marvin and Ann Duncan; brother, Marvin Duncan, Jr.; her grandparents; and many other friends and family.

Left to remember Pat is her sister, A. Marilyn (Duncan) Hendrickson; nephews, Keith Hendrickson and H. John Hendrickson (Cathy Taylor); niece, Deborah

Hendrickson (George Harnish); grand-nieces, Evangeline Mengelkoch (Kyle MacDonald), and Chelsea Wallis (Matt Wallis); and great grand-niece, Aurora Wallis.

Pat will also be greatly missed and remembered by her beloved Schoenborn family including her brother-in-law, Delmar Schoenborn and his wife Betty; and sister-in-law, Joan Schoenborn; and numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen.  Burial will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Mahnomen.
