Obituary

Pastor Loren Fevig, age 83, of Ulen, MN, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in Valley Memorial Homes, Grand Forks, ND.

Loren Goodwin Fevig was born July 13, 1929 to Orris and Agnes (Staven) Fevig in their home in Ulen. Loren was baptized into the Christian faith by Pastor Agnar Tanner of the Lutheran faith in his parents' home on September 1st, 1929. Loren grew up and attended church and confirmed his baptismal covenant May 28th, 1944 by Pastor Alfred Gunderson. Loren attended Ulen Public School graduating with the class of 1947. From 1948 to 1950, Loren worked as an apprentice electrician. In September of 1950, he entered the United States Air Force where he served in the Air National Guard for one year. He then went on to serve four more years in the regular Air Force during the Korean War. Three of these four years were spent in the 12th Air Force Headquarters in Frankfurt and Ramstein, Germany. It was during this time Loren experienced the call to prepare for the Ministry. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in August of 1954, Loren enrolled at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in May of 1958. He then entered the Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN in September of the same year. During the summers of 1960 and 1961, Loren was enrolled in the Clinical Pastoral Education at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis and Fergus Falls, MN where he completed his studies and received a Bachelor of Divinity degree on May 28th, 1961. Loren was ordained into the Christian ministry on June 18, 1961 at his home congregation, Bethlehem Lutheran in Ulen.

On June 15th, 1956, Loren was united in marriage to Kirsti Kjearsgaard of Edmonton Alberta Canada by Pastor Conrad Lund. To this union four children were born: Karen, Kari, Jonathan and Kathy.

Loren served Trinity Lutheran Congregation of Swan River, Manitoba, Canada and Emmanuel Lutheran Congregation of Norquay, Saskatchewan from July, 1961 to June of 1965. In that same year, Loren received the Call to serve Bigwoods and Zion Lutheran of Oslo, MN. From 1971 to 1982, Loren served as Pastor of Calvary Lutheran Congregation of Park Rapids, MN. In 1982, Loren served the American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, MN and was there until 1990. From 1990 to 1993, he served Glyndon Lutheran Church of Glyndon, MN where he and Kirsti became active in the Red River Teens Encounter Christ Evangelical retreat week-ends.

In 1993, Loren retired from Active Parish Ministry and he and Kirsti moved to their Tulaby Lake home in Waubun, MN. They became active in Trinity Lutheran Church there, where he also served as Interim Pastor for a year. In 1993, Loren also served his home congregation of Bethlehem Lutheran in the same capacity, through 2006. Kirsti passed peacefully from this life on April 13th, 2002. In June of 2006, Loren joined the staff at Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Ulen as Visitation Pastor and serving on various committees where needed.

Loren was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and he served as Chaplain. He was also a member of the Rotary International Clubs in Park Rapids and Long Prairie and was always an active member of any community where he lived. Over the years, Loren also served as a volunteer fireman.

Loren is survived by his children, Karen (Brad) Schuster of Drayton, ND, Kari (Kerry) Ward of Maple Grove, MN Jonathan (Laurie) Fevig of Garfield, MN and Kathy (Tim) Sproul of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Jared and Colin Schuster, Joseph and Kirsti Sproul, Adam and Regan Ward, Siobhan Fevig, Derek, Grant and Brooke Osterman and one great-grandchild, Aurora Fevig; a brother, Arvid (Doloris) Fevig of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, Carol Dauner of Ada, MN; a sister-in-law, Emelyn Fevig of Ulen, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his brother, David.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:30 am in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN. Visitation was Friday, August 31st from 5-7 pm with a Prayer service at 7 pm in Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN. Visitation was also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Interment was in North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
