Watch Pastor Behling's Funeral Service

Pastor Robert Behling, age 64, of Twin Valley, MN, passed away and entered the arms of his Lord, on Monday, September 14, 2021 in Park Rapids, MN.

Robert Edward, the son of Reverend Edward and Rose (Heinamaki) Behling was born on May 13, 1957 in Saskatchewan, CA.  As a young child, Robert moved with his family to Popple Creek, MN near Sauk Rapids, MN, and Foley, MN. When his father took a call in the First Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, MN area, the family relocated there.  Robert attended school in East Grand Forks and later graduated with the class of 1975.  He enrolled in the University of North Dakota where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.  Robert then moved to Ft. Wayne, IN to attend Concordia Seminary. He proudly received his Master of Divinity and was ordained in 1985.  He began his call of ministry at St. Johns/Trinity Church in Underwood and Hazen, ND.  Many years later, Robert was called to South Dakota, serving in Revillo, Milbank, and Howard communities.   In 2005, Pastor Behling moved to Twin Valley to be closer to his family in Park Rapids.  He has faithfully ministered to the congregation at Trinity Lutheran Church in Twin Valley for 16 years.  Trinity Church and the congregation was not only a job for Robert, but quickly became a part of his heart.

Robert dutifully visited his parents each weekend, visiting and helping with their weekly needs.   Bob had a very close relationship with his father, who passed away in 2017.  He was an avid fisherman and spent many hours on Big Sand Lake with his dad and brothers.  He also loved to sit in the hunting stand or watch trail cam images. He cherished the outdoors and watching wildlife all around him.  Loving animals, Robert was especially close to his parent's dogs.  He was a quiet and private man, but truly cherished his time with his mom, family, and close friends.  His gentle spirit and tender smile will be greatly missed.

Bob is survived by his mother, Rose Behling of Park Rapids; one sister, Lois (Steve) Disterhaupt of Hayden, ID; two brothers: Stephan of Park Rapids, and Peter (Wanda) of Grand Forks, ND; five nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Twin Valley.  Visitation will begin at 9:00am on Wednesday at the church. Committal Services will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids at 3:00pm, following the funeral on Wednesday.

Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, and CDC guidelines, social distancing will be practiced. Masks are encouraged.
