Palmer Carlsrud, age 96, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, in MeritCare Health Systems, Fargo, North Dakota.
Palmer Carlsrud was born November 6th, 1911, one of ten children born to Tosten and Karen (Aure) Carlsrud near Gary, Minnesota. He was raised on a farm east of Gary and also attended country school in that area. As a youngster, Palmer was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Ness Lutheran Church, rural Gary. As a young man, he farmed with his brothers until entering the United States Army. While in the military, Palmer was a medic with the 1st Infantry (Wild Cat Division), in the South Pacific, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge in January of 1946, Palmer returned to Gary to farm with his brothers for a time. In 1951, he moved to Malta, Montana, where he worked with his sister and brother-in-law at the Gambles Hardware Store there. Palmer retired in the early 1970's, living in Malta until 2001. At that time Palmer came back to make his home in the Twin Valley community where he lived until the time of his death.
Palmer was a member of the American Legion in Malta and loved spending time playing cards, especially whist and pinochle.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 3rd, 2007, at 10:00 AM in the Twin Valley Living Center Chapel, Twin Valley. Officiating will be Mary Lou Bade with Julia Mae Gullingsrud serving as organist and Karen Bergstrum serving as vocalist. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his nieces and nephews. Visitation will be one hour before services at the Twin Valley Living Center Chapel on Monday.
A service will also be held on Wednesday, December 5th in the Malta Lutheran Church, Malta, Montana. Interment will be in the Malta Veterans Cemetery, Malta, Montana.
