Owen Sterton, 90, of Ada, MN, formerly Hendrum, MN died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in Bridges Care Community, Ada.

Owen Ithiel Sterton was born January 8, 1923 the only child of Jens and Christine (Rogness) Sterton in Hendrum. As a boy, Owen was raised west of Hendrum, just across the river into North Dakota. He attended high school in Hendrum, graduating with the class of 1941. As a young man, Owen farmed with his dad as well as working winters for American Crystal in Moorhead for over 40 years. On September 16, 1953 Owen was united in marriage to Ethel Fjeld at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Faith, MN. The couple lived south of Hendrum with his parents while continuing to farm with his dad. In 1960, Owen purchased the farm where he and Ethel raised their two children. Owen retired from farming in the mid-1970's, but continued to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of farming while working part time for a neighbor, Dick Canning. The couple continued to live there until moving into Hendrum in 1987. Owen and Ethel moved into Bridges Care Community in 2010. Ethel died October 22, 2011.

Owen had a passion for farming, spending time outdoors, and being with his family. After his retirement, he and Ethel enjoyed many trips all over the United States. Owen also enjoyed playing cards with Ethel, reading the newspaper and watching game shows on television. He was proud of his children and loved being with them. He also truly treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Owen is survived by his son, Michael (Kristine) of Ada, MN and daughter, Kimberly (Steve) Fisher of Hudson, WI; five grandchildren, Alivia, Christian and Alexander Sterton and Graham and Sylvia Fisher; an uncle, Carroll Rogness of Moorhead, MN; brothers-in-law, Dick Norum of St. Petersburg, FL, Donald (Laura) Fjeld of Twin Valley, MN; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Fjeld of Twin Valley and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. Officiating was Sister Shana Williams with Lorraine Jossund serving as organist and Jessica Karsten and Mike Sterton serving as vocalists. Pallbearers were John Kolness, Darrell Torgerson, Jr., Peter Jacobson, Steven Jacobson, Robert Arends, and John Jossund. Honorary pallbearer was Peter Rogness.

Burial was in Pontoppidan Lutheran Cemetery, Hendrum.
