Owen Kraakmo, age 79, of Twin Valley, MN, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Twin Valley Assisted Living Center, Twin Valley.

Owen, the son of Oscar and Esther (Otterson) Kraakmo, was born on March 9, 1944.  He grew up on the family farm South of Twin Valley and attended Syre Lutheran Church.  Upon the church's closing, Owen's family joined Calvary Lutheran in Ulen, MN, where he continues to hold his membership.   As a young boy, he began school in Ulen then transferred up to Twin Valley School.  Owen began helping his father on the farm at a young age and quickly developed a passion for agriculture.  Owen and his father farmed together, working side by side, for his entire career.  They worked hard for many years raising cattle and grains.  Shortly after his father passed away, Owen rented out the farmland but continued to live on the homeplace.  Owen enjoyed the peace and quiet of country living.  He was content with the simple things his life provided and enjoyed a quiet conversation with close friends.  When Owen wasn't checking in on the seasonal fieldwork, he was often found watching Lawrence Welk and old movies on public TV. He also avidly watched Messiah Church Services every Sunday and appreciated the outreach of his Calvary Church family in Ulen.  For the past several years, Owen has made his home at the Johnson apartments in Twin Valley and very recently entered the Twin Valley Assisted Living Center.

Owen is survived by nine cousins: Corinne Amundson, Jeane Maki, Paul Amundson, Audrey (Mervin) Dudley, Doris (Spencer) Ure, Bruce (Diane) Houglum, Barry (Jeanine) Houglum, Diane (Terry) Tobin, and Gregg (Barb) Houglum; and several extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Esther, and his brother, Curtis.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, at 2:00pm, with visitation 1 hour prior, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN. Interment will be at the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
