Orvis Nolte, 88, formerly of Fertile, MN, died on Monday, November 15, 2010 at Sheyenne Crossings Care Center in West Fargo, ND.

Orvis was born on September 14, 1922, to Henry and Jenny (Dieters) Nolte.
He grew up and attended Fertile High School, graduating in 1940. He continued his education at Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.

On February 14, 1946, Orvis married Verna Gullickson at the Concordia Lutheran parsonage in Fertile. They moved to Liberty Township where they farmed. In 1960, they moved to Fertile living there until 1993, when they moved to Moorhead, MN. On February 14, 2002, Orvis and Verna celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Verna died February 20, 2002.

Orvis was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was active in the Fertile community serving on the Fertile School Board, Beltrami Elevator Board and Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Orvis was an avid gardener and could make anything grow. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and ice fishing.

Orvis is survived by three children: Douglas Ray (Marty), Fertile, MN; Cathy Louise Robert) Franck, Ashby, MN; Marsha Janine Stellrecht, Moorhead, MN; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one brother, Clayton Nolte, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Verna, 2 sons, Craig and Greg, one grandson, Gabriel Stellrecht, 3 brothers, Walter, Norman, Donald, 2 sisters, Elenore and Ethel.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 19, 2010, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, with visitation one hour before the services.
Burial will be at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery.
