Orvis D. Dullum, age 84, of Mahnomen, MN, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.
Orvis Donovan Dullum was born October 30, 1932, on a farm near Faith, MN, the son of Olaf and Thelma (Ovaldson) Dullum. He was raised on the farm in that community and attended Banner School for the first 8 years. After that, he attended Twin Valley High School where he graduated. As a teenager, he worked for area farmers. After high school, he moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area where he worked at several different jobs. Orvis moved to the Mahnomen community as a young man and began working at Wild Rice Electric, cutting brush for a short time before becoming a lineman.
On April 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Carol Westcott in Ada. The couple made their home in Mahnomen where their four children were born and raised. Carol died unexpectedly on May 29, 1971. Orvis continued to make his home in Mahnomen, raising his children and continuing his employment at Wild Rice Electric for the next 42 years, retiring in the mid 1990's. On September 25, 1972, Orvis married Linda Syverson in Mahnomen and a daughter was born to the couple. They divorced in the late 1970's. After his retirement, he continued to make his home in Mahnomen until the past few years when he moved to Dilworth, MN to be closer to his children.
Orvis was an avid bowler in his younger years and he and Carol loved to go to Saturday night dances. He enjoyed playing cards, especially whist, with the grandkids and watching All Star Wrestling with his friends. Orvis was also known for his love of nice cars and the many Cadillac's he owned over the years.
Orvis is survived by two daughters, Pam (Dewey) Schoenborn, Moorhead, MN and Kirsten (Dustin) Demarais, Morris, MN, two sons, Bryan (Kathy) Dullum, Moorhead, MN and Chad (Lynn) Dullum, Reiles Acres, ND, one brother, Marlin (Joyce) Dullum, Minneapolis, MN, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol, his daughter, Debra and one sister.
