Orpha
Braseth
Aug 5, 1929 — Jun 16, 2019
Ulen
Orpha Braseth, age 89 of Ulen, MN, passed away peacefully June 16, 2019, at the Viking Manor Nursing Home.
Orpha (Matson) Braseth was born August 5, 1929, to Rudolph and Inga (Hilde) Matson. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Jevnaker Lutheran Church, rural Borup, MN. She attended and graduated from Felton High School. As a young lady, Orpha was united in marriage to Schulyer Braseth on November 5, 1949. The couple purchased a farm near Ulen where they made their home and raised their family of six children. After retiring from farming in 1980, they moved into Ulen and Orpha began working at the Viking Manor as a cook for the next 16 years. In December of 1998, Schulyer passed away and Orpha remained in their home. She later made her home at Northern Lights Assisted Living until moving to the nursing home in June of 2015.
What brought Orpha the most joy was spending endless hours in the tractor, which she did until her early 80's. Her greatest love was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. When time allowed, Orpha also enjoyed crocheting, putting together jigsaw puzzles and playing cards, especially Whist. And who could forget Orpha's homemade donuts! She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love her.
Orpha is survived by her six children: Steve (Lonnie) Braseth, Rudy (Melissa) Braseth, Robert (Sandy) Braseth, Kristi (Jeff) Knutson, Randy (Julie) Braseth, all of Ulen, MN, and Heidi Hall of Fargo, ND; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ruby Hogansen of Ulen, Jean Hamernik of Flom, MN, and Mavis (Marvin) Corneliussen also of Ulen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Inga; her husband, Schulyler; sister, Audrey Bjorhus; grandson, Cory Braseth; and great-grandchildren, Bria and Chase Braseth.
Orpha's family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the Staff at Viking Manor Nursing Home for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Orpha over the past 4 years.
