Obituary

Orleen Vernice Sip, Ada, MN, passed away peacefully with family by her side at Benedictine Care Community in Ada on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at the age of 96 years and 357 days.

Orleen was born on April 29, 1923, to Arthur and Olga (Sundal) Warne in Driscol, ND. At one year old her family moved to the Hegne Township area in Norman County. Due to road conditions, Orleen had to wait to attend rural school and then attended Ada High School while living in Ada with schoolmates. She was editor of the school paper that won honors, and excelled in choir and declam. She graduated in 1942.

Orleen was united in marriage with Leonard Sip on November 7, 1943. They had five children. They worked side by side farming and building up their own home and farmstead. Leonard died in 1974, but Orleen continued to live on the farm helping her sons, raising a garden and caring for her grandchildren. Orleen became a care giver for the Norman County Home Health organization. She moved from the farm to her home in Ada in 1986.

Orleen was active in her church groups; ladies aid, quilting, and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a former 4-H member and leader, leading for several years, and a member of the Goodwill and Homemakers Club. Orleen earned awards for "Homemaker of the Year" and "Friend of 4-H." She continued to keep busy quilting and baking up to the time she moved into Mission Court Assisted Living in 2017. In December of 2019 Orleen made the transition to Bridges Care Community.

Orleen is survived by five children, Dale (Arlene) Sip, Ada, MN, Darwin Sip, Canistota, SD, Cary Sip, Ada, MN, Lorie (David) Kitchell, Ada, MN, and Wendell (Beth) Sip, Ada, MN; brother, Leland (Sharon) Warne, Prescott, AZ; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren (with 18th on the way); 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Richard Warne, and infant brother; granddaughter, Angela Sip; and great-grandson Cole.
