Obituary

Orelle Irene Mattison passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 29th at the Dorsett Nursing Home after suffering a massive stroke, she was 92. For several years prior she had resided within the loving atmosphere of Tender Care Assisted Living, Spearfish, SD.

Orelle was born on April 16th , 1917 to Edwin and Clara Benthagen of Borup. Growing up she had the challenge of being left handed in an elementary school era of left is wrong. She mastered writing with her right hand, under the pressure of the yard stick slap; she later attended and graduated from Borup High School.

Orelle married Carlea Oliver Mattison on July 3rd, 1937; they began their life together farming just outside Borup MN here they lovingly raised two sons and a daughter. She was a dedicated member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary. After Carlea's death in 1971, Orelle moved to Flint, MI to be near her daughter. There she was employed by General Motors Corporation for several years. After growing up and living a quiet family farm life, the automotive manufacturing industry was a challenging contrast which she mastered with many interesting stories to tell. In 1985 she moved to Lake St. Louis, MO to stay near her daughter and family. She resided in MO for 14 years before moving to the quiet beauty of the Black Hills in SD and be near her 2 sons.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Carlea; brother, George Benthagen; great grandson Aaron Mattison.

Orelle is survived by sons, Carlen (Janet) Mattison of Spearfish SD, Alan (MarDee) Mattison of Rapid City SD, and daughter, Barbra (Steven) Eastvold of Lake St. Louis, MO. Nine grandchildren, Jorgine Langone, Charlene Hogan, LeeAnn Mattison, Edwin Eastvold, Randal Eastvold, Robert Mattison, Michael Mattison, Kenric Eastvold, Lynette Barr, 13 great grandchildren and 2 nephews.

Graveside services was held Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 1 pm at Winchester Lutheran Cemetery, Borup, MN.
