Opal E. Jacobson Londo, 93, Hendrum, MN, died on Sunday, November 4, 2018, in Fox, Arkansas, at her daughters home.
Opal Elizabeth Pollitt Jacobson Londo
Opal was born April 30, 1925 near Canton, Illinois to J. W. and Ruth Pollitt. They moved to a farm near Prairie City, Illinois when she was a young girl. She graduated from Avon High School in Avon, Illinois then attended Western Illinois University. She obtained a war emergency certificate and taught school for a year. She then took a job at the Rock Island arsenal as part of the civilian war effort. On a ferry boat in 1944, she met Meloyd Jacobson who had just returned from military service in the South Pacific. They were united in marriage on November 11, 1945 in Prairie City, Illinois. Their marriage was blessed with four children. They made their home in Minnesota, splitting their time between their homes in rural Hendrum and Lake George. Meloyd passed away on May 29, 1976.
Opal had a number of interesting jobs through the years, including a long stint at Silverline Boats in Moorhead. At the age of 55 she resumed her education, earning her nursing degree from St. Mary's in Rochester, Minnesota. She then worked at the Halstad nursing home, before leaving to begin a fiberglass business in Hendrum. It was through this business that she met her second husband, Malcolm Londo. They were married on August 6, 1988.
Opal was a deeply spiritual person and she spent a lot of time reading and studying the Bible. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching and feeding all types of wildlife. Opal was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed baseball.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Meloyd; second husband, Malcolm; step-daughters Bonnie Wadena, Loris LaFriniere, Ardyce McCradie, and Lynn Spry; daughters-in-law Bev Jacobson and Shannon Jacobson. The Jacobsons would like to extend a special thank you to the Londo branch of the family for the attention and love they have given to Mom these past years.
