Obituary

Opal Bernice Lambrix, 94, of Crookston, Mn, died on Monday, September 19, 2011, at the Villa St. Vincent Living Center, Crookston. She was born in Woodside Township, rural Fertile, MN, to Iver and Betsy (Nesheim) Bergum on August 19, 1917. She attended Woodside Township Country School near her home. Following her schooling, Opal did babysitting and domestic services for area farm families. At the age of 17, she moved to Duluth, MN, while living with family, she worked making $4.00 per week. Opal came home and in 1938, moved to Detroit, MI, being employed as a housekeeper. She applied at Hudson-Dayton and received a job.
On December 28, 1940, Opal was united in marriage to Fred Lambrix at St. Allowishes Catholic Church in Detroit. They owned and operated a party store in South Rockwood, MI, until 1978. They retired to Maple Bay, MN, living on Maple Lake in the summers and in Pharr, TX during the winters. In 1998, they moved to Crookston, and Fred died in 2000.
Being genuinely friendly, and a bit a of "live wire", Opal was a joy to be with. She took a sincere interest in those around her. Opal loved flowers, card and board games. Her heritage in the Woodside Township was precious and dear to her heart, as was her family.

Opal is survived by two sons, David (Cindy), Charles Town, WV and George (Gayle), Carleton, MI; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Leah Friebohle, Crookston; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, husband, brothers: Joe, Clarence, Leonard, Rueben and David; sisters: Mabel Rosten, Selma Rosten, Inga Mesedahl, Gertrude Pederson, Buelah Roed, Mildred Duckstad, and four infant siblings.

Funeral services will be at 10 am Friday, September 23, 2011, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation will be in on Thursday, September 22, 2011, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fertile, MN.
