Omer J. Gunderson, 80, Shelly, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at his residence in Shelly under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Omer Jerome Gunderson was born in Hillsboro, ND, on June 20, 1943, to Ole and Julia Gunderson. He grew up on his parent's farm near Caledonia ND and attended school in both Caledonia, ND and Climax, MN. After school, he moved to East Grand Forks, MN and worked both for his uncle farming and American Crystal.

In 1968, he married Adeline Bagne. They made their home on the family farm near Caledonia, ND. To this union two sons were born, Jon and Jason Gunderson. Omer farmed full-time before retiring and moving to Shelly, MN, nearly 18 years ago.

Omer enjoyed farming, hunting, bass fishing, playing cards and making music with his cousins. His father taught him to play the accordion, banjo and guitar.

He is survived by his wife Adeline, sons, Jon and Jason; brothers-in-law, Francis Ayotte, Elling Bagne,

Vern (Arlene) Bagne, and Gerald (Lori) Bagne; sisters-in-law, Janice Tveitbakk,and Joy Gleason; and three grandchildren, Brandon, Dylon and Hannah. Omer is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Betty (Gunderson) Ayotte; sister-in-law Lorraine Riska; and brothers-in-law, Richard Tveitbakk, Steve Riska and James Gleason.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley and the doctors and staff at the Hillsboro Medical Center for their constant loving care.

Memorial Service: 1:00 PM, Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.

Inurnment: Caledonia City Cemetery, Caledonia, ND at a later date.
