Oliver Moen, age 85, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Thursday, October 21, 2010, in his home.

Oliver LuVerne Moen was born at home on January 11, 1925, the son of Eddie and Inga (Bakken) Moen near Syre, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm northwest of Ulen and attended country school near there. As a young man Oliver farmed with his father before entering the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater aboard the Destroyer USS Borie. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Oliver returned to Ulen and attended the Hanson Mechanical School in Fargo. On January 20, 1947, Oliver was united in marriage to Doris Gosnell in Ulen. The couple lived on the home farm with Oliver's parents while they farmed together. In 1948, they went to Matlin, Florida. While there, Oliver attended school studying accounting. In 1949, the couple returned to Ulen. At that time they purchased a farm northwest of Ulen. They farmed for several years before moving to Frederick, Maryland, in the early 1960's where he worked in a brush factory. The family came back to Ulen where Oliver purchased the farm near his parents and he and Doris built a house there in 1964. Oliver retired from farming in the early 1970's and he and Doris have continued to make their home there since.

Some of Oliver's favorite past times included woodworking, gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Ulen VFW.

Oliver is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris of Ulen, MN, a daughter, Jean (Ralph) Truman of Ulen, MN; a son, Wayne (Kim) Moen of Ada, MN; three grandchildren, Lana (Cory) Schatschneider and Aubrey and Michael Moen; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Ian Schatschneider, one brother, Harald Moen, Ulen, MN and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johan.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 25th, 2010, at 10:30 AM in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation will be Sunday, October 24th from 2PM until 5PM with a Prayer Service at 4PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Dahl with Carol Lockhart serving as organist and Steve Lunde serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Michael Moen, Cory Schatschneider, Donnie Moen, Daniel Moen, Tommy Smith and Danny Wang. Military honors will be provided by the Ulen VFW Post #5115 and the Ulen American Legion.

Interment will be in West Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
