Olive Folstrom, age 63, of Elbow Lake Village, MN, died Friday, March 16, 2007 in her home.
Olive Louise Hamlin was born July 29, 1944, the daughter of Salman and Dorothy (Annawaush) Hamlin, in Pine Bend, MN. She was raised in the Pine Bend area and attended country elementary school near there. As a young woman, Olive attended Fosston High School and babysat for many neighbors. Olive was united in marriage to Kenneth Gordon and to this union they were blessed with three children. Olive and Kenneth moved throughout northern Minnesota, Chicago, IL, Cleveland, OH, through out their marriage. After Kenneth?s death in 1969, Olive continued to raise her children and began working at the Fosston Bakery. She later moved to the St. Paul, MN, area, where she worked several years for Mickey?s Diner and various other restaurants. In the Mid-1990?s, Olive moved to Mahnomen, MN, to be closer to her children. While living here she was employed as a waitress at the Shooting Star Casino until a back injury forced her to retire. She remained in Mahnomen until a year ago when she began living in Elbow Lake Village, where she continued to make her home.
Olive was a member of Samuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Naytahwaush. Her family was her pride and joy. She was a wonderful grandmother and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Olive also enjoyed getting out on the lake fishing whenever she could.
Olive is survived by one son, Kenneth (LeAnne) Gordon, Jr. of Mahnomen; two daughters, April (Terry) Myogeto of Waubun, MN, and Nancy (Scott) Matis of Big Lake, MN; one brother, Charles Hamlin of Mahnomen; five sisters: Laura Spicer of Mahnomen, Georgette (David) Christenson of Apple Valley, MN, Rosella Sovick of Warroad, MN, and Ruth Larson and Beverly Hamlin both of Bagley, MN, Beverly Hamlin; eight grandchildren: Stephanie Gordon, Anthony Gordon, Galileo Valdez, Austin Myogeto, Amanda Nelson, Julia Gordon , Emily Gordon, and Cheyenne Matis; and three great grandchildren, Alanzo, A.J., and Alec; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one husband, Kenneth Gordon, Sr.
