Obituary

Odin Berget, age 86, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.

Odin A. Berget was born June 13, 1925, the son of George and Stella (Faleide) Berget near Madock, North Dakota. As a child he moved with his family to a farm north of Ulen, Minnesota, where he was raised and attended country school. As a young man he farmed with his father and for other area farmers before purchasing his own land. At the age of 21, Odin contracted polio which left him with some disability. In the mid 1960's, he moved to Moorhead, MN, where he began working as a custodian at Concordia College. He was employed there until his retirement. Several years ago he moved back to Ulen where he lived in the Northern Lights apartments and for the past year had been a resident on the Viking Manor Nursing Home. When Odin was younger, he provided much of his parents care when they needed it, drove his mother wherever she needed to go and in later years had his father live with him in Moorhead. After Odin moved back to Ulen, he could be seen driving his cart around the city of Ulen checking on anything that needed checked on.

He enjoyed playing bingo, whist and most any other card game along with watching baseball, especially the Twins. Odin had a special love of pets, whether it might be his dogs or cats. These animals would just come to him and could often be found on his lap.

Odin is survived by his sister, Judy Evink, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys (Berget) Buhaug and one brother, died in infancy.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 1:30 PM in Viking Manor Nursing Home Chapel, Ulen. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Officiating was Pastor Al Brooks with Carol Lockhart serving as pianist.
