Norvald M. Anderson, 72, of Twin Valley, MN, died Saturday, October 19, 2013, at home with family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Norvald Marvin was born November 1, 1940, in Bagley, MN, the son of Oscar and Marcella (Ondrasek) Anderson. His early years were spent going to country school followed by graduating from Clearbrook High School with the class of 1958. In November of 1958, Norvald enlisted with the United States Marines. He proudly served his country until an honorable discharge in December of 1962. While in the service, Norvald served as an MP, which began his career of working within different police entities.
Over the years, Norvald spent time working for the City of Bagley Police Department, at Stillwater Correctional Facility in Stillwater, MN, at Tri-County Community Corrections in Crookston, MN, and also a short time in Minneapolis, MN, at 3M and the Ford Plant. On June 14, 1986, Norvald was united in marriage to Connie Bekkerus at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in rural Gary and both worked in Crookston in corrections. In 1994, Connie and Norvald moved into Twin Valley and continued working in Crookston. He retired from the Tri-County Community Corrections in 2003 after 28 years of dedicated service.
One of the most important pieces to his life was family, especially his grandchildren. Whether it was shopping for them, telling stories, or camping and making sure everyone had their "poking stick" for the campfire, Norvald treasured each and every moment he was able to spend with them. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his younger years, slingshot hunting. Norvald did like to travel, whenever possible only by car. There was more to experience and it gave him independence that no plane could do. His last traveling experience was in early October when he and Connie went for a drive to take in the beautiful fall foliage. They also visited the area of Bagley where he grew up.
As a longtime member of Green Meadow, Norvald remained active in the choir, on the board of trustees and helping with the mowing until he was unable. When his health forced him to slow down, Norvald spent his time reading, working crossword puzzles, watching the History Channel and simply being around family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Norvald is survived by his wife, Connie, Twin Valley; six sons: Mark (Stephanie) Ramstorf, Bloomington, IN, Christian (Chris) Ramstorf, Indianapolis, IN, Neal (Lindsay) Anderson, Bagley, Noel (Stephanie) Anderson, Bagley, Tim Ramstorf, Gary, and Ben (Tammy) Ramstorf, Gary; two daughters, Naomi (Gary) Berglund, El Paso, TX, and Nina (Steve) Leyh, Milaca, MN; 20 grandchildren; two brothers, Rev.
