Norman Hills, 69, of Mahnomen Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Mahnomen Health Center.
Norman A. Hills was born December 6, 1943, in Burnett County, Wisconsin to Norman C. and Margel (Carpenter) Hills. He graduated from the Webster High School. Shortly after graduation, Norman entered the United States Army and served in the 54th Engineers. He was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1964.
After returning home, Norman moved to the Twin Cities and in 1967 he met and married Beverly Estey. Norman worked in the fencing trade until he decided to move the family to the iron range, near Hibbing MN. He worked at a saw mill for a short time before he began a career in logging. Following a logging accident he and Beverly moved the family to Naytahwaush and eventually settled in the Village of Elbow Lake. In 1988 Norman took a job at a steel plant in Dodge Center, MN, loading trucks and making deliveries. After a work related accident in the early 1990's Norman returned to Mahnomen county where they have made their home ever since.
Norman was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time in the woods. He enjoyed fishing and trapping and above all, he loved to hunt deer. He had many other hobbies which included birch bark crafts, carving decoys, puzzles, and playing cards.
Norman is survived by his wife, Beverly of Waubun, MN; four children Norma "Jean" Soyring (Darb McArthur) of White Earth, MN, Anna (Jeff) Bjerk, of Mahnomen, MN, Norman Jr (Cindy) Hills, Waubun, MN, Yvonne (John) Schmidt, of Mahnomen, MN; 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter; four brothers: Don, Walter, Dave, Howard; four sisters: Millie, Sherry, Rainey and Sandy; and many loved family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Harold and Mike, and one sister Elaine.
Memorial Services were held on Friday, July 5, 2013, at 11:00am at Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home, in Mahnomen.
Time of Gathering was held one hour prior to the service.
