Norman Gunderson, age 80, of Gary, MN, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Twin Valley Assisted Living, Twin Valley, MN.

Norman Arnold, the son of Arnold and Mildred (Gorder) Gunderson, was born at home on February 23, 1944, near Gary.  Growing up on the family farm, Norman's world revolved around animals and the land.  From an early age, Norman and his brothers handled most of the farming responsibilities and, following their father's death when Norman was just 15 years old, they began operating the dairy farm full time.  They would milk each morning, attend school and return home to do chores.  Following his graduation from Gary High School, Norman dedicated his career to farming.  A self-taught mechanic and welder, Norman could fix anything on the farm. He passionately loved animals and tending to the cattle. He tamed all of the barn cats, and he always had a dog, which was continuously named Rex.  Throughout the years, "Rex" was Norman's constant companion and his best friend.   He stayed current with world events through avid reading of daily newspapers.  Norman's family and his siblings were very important to him.  He attended every family gathering, where he delighted his nieces and nephews with gifts of candy and coins. He had proudly been a lifelong member of Ness Lutheran Church, near his home.  He was quietly stoic, but with his gentle demeanor, a dry sense of humor, and the twinkle in his eyes, Norman brought a smile to all who knew and loved him.

Norman is survived by three sisters: Pearl Johnson of Crookston, MN, Barbara (Bill) Crocker of Grand Forks, ND, and Sharon (Rodney) Ramacher of Barnesville, MN; three brothers, Marvin (Debbie ) of Fertile, MN, Maynard (Laurel) of Bismark, ND, and Jerome (Ramona) of Thompson, ND; nine nieces: Anne Noss, Janelle Thompson, Julie Johnson, Tina Kenninger, Lynelle Stanford, Lisa Kaufman, Becky Mace, Jana Martin, and Suzanne Crocker; and seven nephews: Daniel Gunderson, Jeremy Gunderson, Nathan Crocker, Paul Johnson, David Ramacher, Eric Ramacher, Peter Noss; as well as many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alice Noss; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Gunderson; two brothers-in-law, Palmer Noss and Gerald Johnson; two nephews, Ryan and Brad Gunderson; and his niece, Sarah Gunderson.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 2:00pm, with a visitation one hour prior, at Ness Lutheran Church in Gary. The interment will be held at Ness Lutheran Cemetery, Gary.
