Norma Garden, age 96, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, formerly Gary, Minnesota, died Tuesday, January 08, 2008, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Norma Haugen was born January 12, 1911, the daughter of Nels and Selma (Grettum) Haugen in Ulen, Minnesota. At a young age, Norma moved with her family to Manvel, North Dakota, where she attended school. The family later moved to Gary where she graduated from Gary High School with the class of 1928. On January 17, 1932, Norma was united in marriage to Raymond Garden. To this union the couple was blessed with two children, Audrey and Rodney. Ray passed away on February, 18, 1983. Norma moved into the Lincoln Terrace, assisted living facility in Twin Valley in 2001. In 2006, she made her home in the Twin Valley Living Center where she had continued to make her home.
Norma was an active life-long member of the Gary Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Gary American Legion Auxiliary. She participated in Bible studies and was a member of a quilting group. Norma loved to be around people. She was a skilled homemaker, baker and cook. She extended warm hospitality to everyone and she especially treasured the time she spent with her family and friends.
Norma is survived by her children, Audrey (James) Glick, Grand Forks, ND and Rodney (Judy), Park Rapids, MN; five grandchildren, Kristin (Ron) Wilson, Bismarck, ND, Ryan (Mollie) Garden, St. Cloud, MN, Karla (Patrick) Fordham, Fife, WA, Valerie (TJ) Horsager, Inver Grove Heights, MN and Jonell (Jay) Richards, Callaway, MN; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Lauren and Jack Wilson, Madeline, Reagan, Ripley and Claire Garden, Grant and Garrett Horsager, Jake, Jon, Jack and Jens Richards.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray, sister, Bernice Haugen and brothers, Glen and Everett.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11th at 11AM in Gary Lutheran Church, Gary, Minnesota. Visitation will be Thursday, January 10th from 5PM until 7PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will also be one hour before services at the church on Friday.
Interment will be in St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery, Gary, Minnesota.
