Obituary

Nora Jokumsen, 95, of Twin Valley, MN, formerly Mahnomen, MN, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 in the Twin Valley Living Center.

Nora Bertha Louise Bickett was born February 13, 1916 the daughter of Henry and Emma (Lebahn) Bickett near Oldham, South Dakota. As a child, she moved with her family to the community of Carrington, North Dakota. Growing up Nora attended county school and began helping her family on the farm. As a young lady, Nora was united in marriage to Herman Jokumsen in Carrington on June 12, 1935. The couple made their first home near Buchanan, North Dakota, and after a few years moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1938, Herman and Nora moved to a farmstead they purchased east of Mahnomen. Over the years, Nora was active in the farming operation in addition to the everyday chores that come with raising six children. Following their retirement in the early 1980's, Herman and Nora built a new home a short distance from the original farm site. Herman died in September of 1996 and Nora continued to make her home there until February of 2010 when she became a resident of the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley.

Nora was well known for her baking and her awesome caramel rolls. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Nora is survived by one daughter, Norma (Dan) Hughes of Lake Park, Minnesota; three sons: Bob (Sharon) of Wahpeton, North Dakota, Richard (Sharon) of St. James, Minnesota and Don (Sue) of Mahnomen; one sister, Violet Boom of Bismarck, North Dakota; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Nora was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Dennis Tremel; a son, Curly and one grandson, Wade.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 1:00 pm in the Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN.
