Nathan Doerfler, age 45, of Mahnomen, MN, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at home.
Nathan Allan Doerfler, the son of Robert and Helen (Hagen) Doerfler, was born on March 19, 1971 in Mahnomen. He grew up and attended school in Mahnomen, graduating with class of 1989. He then attended North Dakota State University for two years before moving to Clearwater, MN. Nathan later lived in Sioux Falls, SD, where he was employed as an inspector at Raven Industries for many years. In 2010, Nathan returned to Mahnomen to care for his mother, Helen, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Following her death in 2015, he continued to make Mahnomen his home. Even with his own recent failing health Nathan kept his wry sense of humor. He was a computer whiz and an avid fan of the Minnesota Wild hockey team. Nathan doted on his niece and nephew, Jocelyn and Ben, and had a special place in his hearts for his dogs, Dakota and Montana, who were his best companions. Nathan was always willing to help others and kept in touch daily with his family. In his own special way, he touched the hearts of many.
Nathan is survived by two sisters, Suzanne Doerfler of Monticello, MN, and Bobbi (Andy) Stock of Parker, SD; one brother, Michael (Janelle) Doerfler of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Douglas.
