Obituary

Naomi Steinmetz, age 78, of Fosston, MN, formerly of Bejou, MN, died unexpectedly, on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Naomi Fay Brown was born July 2, 1941, in Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of Asa and Neoma (Johnson) Brown.  She grew up and attended school in Barnesville, MN. When she was a Junior in high school, Naomi's family moved to Mahnomen, MN, and she graduated the following year with the class of 1959.  She also met the love of her life, Howard Steinmetz, and they were united in marriage shortly following graduation.  The young couple moved to a farm West of Mahnomen and began their family.  They lived on a couple different farmsteads before settling in September of 1967, on the place northeast of Mahnomen where they made their home until recently.

In addition to helping Scoop with the day to day farming chores, Naomi also had a plethora of other duties.  Over the years, she worked at the dentist office, the chiropractor's office, as a home health aide and a CNA, helped at the group home in Mahnomen and volunteered countless hours at the nursing home.  Naomi was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, ladies aid and played the organ by ear for many years, including this year's Christmas Day Services.

If you knew Naomi, you knew her take charge, my way attitude but you also realized her caring and generosity to a fault personality.  She loved to bake, share her goodies and spend time with family.  She was a great caregiver to Scoop and always made time for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she loved very much. One thing you didn't expect however, was conversation during Wheel of Fortune!  Naomi also enjoyed mowing, trips to the casino, watching the MN Vikings, getting the newspaper, and she loved to sew.  She loved her dog, Snuggles and collected many rocks…big and small.  In her younger years, she was a fierce competitor as they raced snowmobiles and she drove in the annual Powder Puff Races.  She will be sadly missed by many but live on in their hearts forever.

Naomi is survived by her husband of 60 years, Scoop Steinmetz of Erskine, MN; two sons, Jimmy (Sue) Steinmetz of Mahnomen, and Danny (Andrea) Steinmetz of Detroit Lakes, MN; three daughters: Becky (Scott) Hall of Fertile, MN, Holly (Nute) Bilden of Erhard, MN, and Tammy (Efrem) Novacek of Greenbush, MN; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Brown of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Edith Kaiser of Detroit Lakes; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Brown of Fosston and Irene Brown of Milwaukee, WI; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family of Scoop's.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Adam Steinmetz; three brothers: Earl, James and Glen Brown and one sister, Betty Boit.
