Nancy Ellen Fischer was born August 26, 1955 in Little Falls, MN, the daughter of Cliff and Alice (Bloomgren) Fischer. When Nancy was young, the family moved to the McIntosh, MN, area and later Gonvick, MN. Nancy graduated from Gonvick-Trail High School with the class of 1973. Following graduation, she attended Brainerd Technical College.

On October 25, 1975, Nancy was united in marriage to LeRoy Johnson in Gonvick. The couple made their home west of Winger where they raised their family. Over the years¸ Nancy worked at various jobs but most recently she worked as a recreational therapist at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, MN. After a three-year battle with cancer, Nancy lost her fight Friday, September 4, 2009, at Innovis Health Systems in Fargo, ND, at the age of 54.
Nancy was a woman of great compassion and selflessness, always putting others before herself. She was a true caregiver, helping family, friends and residents at the nursing home. In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and going to garage sales. She loved visiting with friends and family and truly cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Nancy was a member of the Winger Legion Auxiliary and a longtime member of Dovre Free Lutheran Church in Winger where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also served on the Winger Township Board for several years.

Surviving Nancy are her husband, LeRoy, of Winger; two sons: Russ (Ann) Johnson and their daughter, Josie, and Nathan (Erin) Johnson and their son, Hayden, all of Winger; two daughters: LeAnn Johnson (Andy Sattler) of Bemidji, MN, and Nia Johnson of Winger; her parents: Cliff and Alice Fischer of McIntosh; three brothers: Jim (Phyllis) Fischer of Crookston, MN, Rick (Barb) Fischer and Kevin (Wanda) Fischer both of Sauk Centre, MN; four sisters: Connie (Arnold) Syverson of Trail, MN, Corky (Karsten) Syverson of McIntosh, Janet Brenteson of Kodiak, AK, and Mary (Bob) Olson of Trail, MN, as well as many very special nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Nancy were held Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 10 am at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, MN. Visitation was held Monday, September 7th from 5-7pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Anderson~Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN and also one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the church. Burial was in the Elim Lutheran Cemetery, rural Winger, MN.
