Myrtle Sather, age 82, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.
Myrtle Loretta Tweiten was born May 23, 1926 in Ulen, Minnesota, the daughter of Christian and Gina (Braseth) Tweiten. She attended school in Ulen and graduated with the class of 1944. Following high school, Myrtle moved with her sister to Texas where they worked in a factory sewing flack jackets for the United States Army. After moving back to Minnesota, she began doing typesetting for the Moorhead Daily News. On December 3, 1949, Myrtle was united in marriage to Kermit Sather. The couple made their home in Ulen and was blessed with two children, Suzanne and Gene. Kermit died in 1994 and Myrtle continued to live in her home in Ulen until May of 2008 when she moved into the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen.
In her younger years, as a self taught pianist, Myrtle would often accompany her husband, Kermit, on the guitar. She was an avid sewer and quilter and often volunteered at the nursing home. Myrtle also enjoyed gardening, baking, and canning and loved playing Bingo. She was a life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was very active with the quilters.
Myrtle is survived by a daughter, Suzanne (Bryce) Forsythe, Dent, MN; a son, Gene (Sandy) Sather, Romona, CA; six granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Deloris Hilde, Bismarck, ND and Betty (Jerry) Nelson, Aurora, CO. In addition to her husband, Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, LaVerne and Ray; and two sisters, Evelyn and Gladys.
Funeral Services were held Monday, December 15, 2008 at 10 am at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN. Burial was in West Bethlehem Cemetery, Ulen.
