Obituary

Myrtle Hermanson, age 96, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, in Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.

Myrtle Vangen was born April 17, 1911, the daughter of Henry and Marie (Lene) Vangen in Gary, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in her Lutheran faith in St. Pauli Lutheran Church. Myrtle attended country school and graduated from Gary High School with the class of 1928. After graduating from high school, Myrtle was employed at Knutson's Café in Gary as a waitress. Later, she worked at a bakery and a café at Gonvick, Minnesota, for about two years. In 1932, Myrtle was employed at the telephone office in Gary, and was there for eight years, the last years being chief operator. On November 21, 1940, Myrtle was united in marriage to Arnold Hermanson in the Gary Parsonage. She became a member of Ness Lutheran Church where she served Luther League and ladies aid as well as being a Sunday school teacher for several years. The couple lived on a farm northeast of Gary which Arnold had purchased the previous year. They continued to live and farm there until their retirement in 1964. At that time they moved into Twin Valley. Arnold died December 17, 1990. Myrtle entered the Twin Valley Living Center in October of 1999, where she had made her home since.

Myrtle had a unique sense of humor and loved to visit. In her earlier years, Myrtle enjoyed tending her flower gardens as well as doing handwork including embroidery, crocheting and knitting.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers, Hjalmer, Edwin, Manvell and Albert.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 21st at 10:30 AM in Ness Lutheran Church, rural Gary, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Monday. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff McCracken with Edna Rude serving as organist and Alden Anderson serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Arne Martinson, Paul Hoppestad, Robert Ames, Roy Bekkerus, Dennis Bekkerus and Gerald Hermanson.

Interment will be in Ness Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gary, Minnesota.
