Myles Olson, age 67, Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Myles was born on May 15, 1940 in Ada, MN to Myles A. and Emma (Miller) Olson. He attended school in Mahnomen, graduating with the class of 1959. Following graduation, Myles enlisted in the Marines where he served his country in Vietnam until being discharged in April of 1963. After returning home to Naytahwaush, MN, he was united in marriage there to Lois Goodwin on September 1, 1963. During the next couple of years, Myles worked road construction for Ness Construction Company until becoming a Minnesota State Highway Patrolman in 1966. Myles worked as a patrolman for the next four years in different parts of Minnesota before returning to Naytahwaush to make his home.
Following his employment with the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Myles became a Chemical Dependency Counselor and worked as a counselor in Leech Lake until 1976. Throughout the 1970's and 1980's, Myles was self - employed as a logger and then worked as a grant writer for the White Earth Band of Ojibwa. In the mid 80's Myles began working as a Chemical Dependency Counselor for the White Earth Tribe and in Detroit Lakes until retiring in 2000. After retirement he continued work part time as a Chemical Dependency Counselor in White Earth, MN.
Myles' love for the guitar began when he learned to play at the age of 12. In his quiet hours he liked to read and he also enjoyed traveling to gun shows thoughout the area.
He is survived by his wife, Lois "Petey", Mahnomen; one daughter, Jocelyn Fairbanks, Mahnomen; six sons: Vince Olson, Naytahwaush, Larry (Melissa) Olson, Naytahwaush, David (Susie) Hanks, Naytahwaush, Leroy Beaulieu, Fargo, Douglas Fairbanks of Mahnomen and Chris Beaedeau, also Fargo; four brothers: David (Betsy) of Bloomington, MN, Don Olson of Naytahwaush, Ernie (Josie) Miller of Hendrum, MN, and Charles "Wowzer" (Lynda) Wadena; and one sister Susan (Wayne) Coleman of Bejou, MN; 16 grandchildren and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jacqueline Fairbanks; and one brother, Chuck.
