Obituary

Murriel Jappe, age 94, of McIntosh, MN died peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2014 at the McIntosh Nursing Home.

Murriel Edna Hoffman, daughter of Erwin and Minnie (Neuman) Hoffman, was born on December 17, 1919, at home near Mahnomen, MN. She grew up in the Mahnomen area and attended country school. While riding horse one day, Murriel met Chester Jappe and the couple dated until December 17, 1941, when they were united in marriage. They operated a farm together for twenty years where Muriel was active with the daily chores and milking the cows, all while raising her children. They loved to go to dances and often made it family event. In 1960, Muriel and Chester moved into Mahnomen to make their home. From 1990 until Chester's death in 2005 they lived in Erskine, MN. Muriel then stayed for a time with her daughter, Claire, in Mahnomen before entering the McIntosh Nursing Home. Murriel loved horses and, in her younger years, was known for her trick riding. She even performed in the Mahnomen County Fair several times. She enjoyed nature, especially wildflowers of which she could recognize and knew all by name. She also was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and diligently read the Fargo Forum every day. Murriel was so very proud of her home and her family, each was a treasured gift she held close to her heart.

Murriel is survived by one son, Abe (Mary Kay) of St. Anthony, MN; three daughters, Claire LaFriniere of Mahnomen, Carol Bauer of Warroad, MN, and Sandra (Jack) Pannell of Chippewa Falls, WI; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one grandson, Dino LaFriniere.

Private family service will be held.
